I m reminded of Pakistan’s ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali’s famous ghazal
“Hungama Hai Kyoon Barpa; Thodi si jo Pe Lee hai.
Chori Tou Nahin Ki; Daka Tou Nahin Dala.”
I wonder what the ‘Holy Land of Islam’ is humming after yesterday’s great display of hospitality! Perhaps this…
“Hungama Hain Kyoon Barpa; Goli Bhi Tou Marri Hai.
Rocket jo nahin Lagga; Grenade bhi nahin fata”
Going by the past record of Pakistani’s love for Cricket we must thank God for small mercy that all Sri Lankan players are safe and back home.
Safe? Yes, after all they survived the flavor of Pakistani Hospitality but just with all those small little friendly bullet wounds in chest, arm, foot, leg, shoulder, thigh etc.
JUST THAT! COME ON! JUST SOME PUNCTURE HOLES! MAY BE YOU ALL GET BACK TO ACTION SOON OR WHAT IF YOU DO NOT? AFTER ALL ‘BRAVADO’ SHOWN IS ‘HEIGHT OF STUPIDITY’ BUT ONLY YOU COULD OR YOUR BOARD HAD UNDERSTOOD.
Though I am glad none of you (Sri Lankans) is critically injured and expect and wish to see u back in action (on play field) soon, yet I doubt your Prudence. After all your not so friendly Neighbor had nearly arranged an appointment of yours with their ‘God Almighty’.
I am reminded of Goswami Tulsi Dass Ji, he said and I quote ( from Sunder Kaand).
“Vinay Karat Jaldhi, Teene din Gaye Beet,
Bole Ram Sakop Tab, Bhay Binu Hoi Na Preet”
By the way Pakistani team survived because ‘God Alimighty’ was by their side you know.
Parting Shot: Will the candle marcher peacenicks at Wagah would learn a lesson now? NOPE they wont. Expect them to preach to you how “Cricket” would bring you closer to your God ”friendly neightbor”!
High time we ask these ‘peacenicks’ to shift their shops to ‘Lahore’ for once and all.
PI.
this attack on Sri Lanka’s cricket team was senseless to say the least, nothing but destructive to all parties involved
[1]. Srilankans thought a game can remain immune to terrorism and violence. That makes us wonder. Did they learn this after so many decades of violence in their own country?
What lesson can come out of this? A nation like Australia could have done this mistake, but why Sri Lanka, which itself has been copying with militancy?
Is it that Srilanka maintains some sort of confidence with Pakistani Govt, which made them over-adventurous? The incident is pointing towards something that is hidden. When India declined to go to Pak, and make other nations too declined to send their teams to Pakistan, why was it that the Sri Lanka thought to send a message across to the world that Pakistan was safe? Why was it risking its own team to make Pakistan achieve its goals? There is something that remains hidden.
[2]. Indian main stream media has become victim to the Pakistani propaganda.
Indian media and press is presenting this case as if both Pakistan and India are victims of the same terrorism. This is what Pakistan wanted to establish all along.
HT brought out with a front page article titled: “Is this Pakistan’s Mumbai?” I felt horrible seeing this. HT was on the reverse. Rather than saying Mumbai was an aberration and Pakistani incidents a trend, it was saying Mumbai attacks were a trend and Pakistani attacks an aberration. I don’t know how they can forget the way Benajir Bhutto was assassinated. And so many incidents of violence that keep happening in Pakistan.
Our media and India should make sure that we remain isolated from such non-sense violence.
[3]. Pakistan has blamed a “foreign hand” in the attacks. This has particularly come after India had blamed and establish its blame on a foreign nation – Pakistan. This trend of Pakistan blaming India for such acts of terror are condemnable and should be denounced by the world community.
If we allow such things to go on, then it would result in more such claims and blames. Pakistan has been trying hard for years to create a climate where both India and Pakistan are counted in the same sentence and are assessed on the same level. This is so shameful for India and Indians who are a progressive lot.
Let us leave Pakistan to a place it deserves. Let us not elevate it to be able to sit by our side.
India and Indian growth story should continue….
Jai Hind!
And yes, as rightly pointed out by you, using Cricket as a peace making device, risking the lives of many of our Indians, won’t achieve anything.
The world community has been using Sports as a tension breaker for long. But earlier, they were Philistine terrorists who assassinated many Israeli players, and now these are Pakistani terrorists. Both the times, they were Muslims.
